Yesterday I sat down with Kai Xin, or "artiste extraordinaire" (which is what I like to call her!) who is a Grade 3 student in Mr. Dan's class. It was earlier this semester that I learned about Kai Xin's artistic abilities. She handed in a standout visual story sequence for a Peter and the Wolf listening activity the junior students were working on. I just had to ask if she had any other drawings or artwork I could see. And she's got loads! See below for one of my favourites, which is a pastel drawing of a tiger. Read the interview to learn about Kai Xin's inspirations, her preferred materials to work with, and what she's working on next. Interviewer: Can you tell me about your work? Kai Xin: My work is very special to me. I like being creative. I always use pastel. Interview: Did you give your beautiful tiger a name? Kai Xin: No. Interviewer: How did you make it? Kai Xin: I used pastel, pen, and that’s it. Interviewer: What inspired you to create this art? Kai Xin: I’m really inspired by nature! Interviewer: Are tigers your favourite animal? Kai Xin: No. Interviewer: What does your art mean to you? Kai Xin: It's a way for me to be creative. I like being creative. It’s the things I want to see in real life. Interviewer: What inspires you? Kai Xin: The things I see everyday. Interviewer: What materials do you like to work with? Kai Xin: Pastel! Interviewer: Are you working on something right now? Kai Xin: No, not yet. Interviewer: Do you have ideas for your next project? Kai Xin: Yes. A dolphin! AuthorWritten by Ms. Soltes.
